The Simple Woman's Daybook - January 4, 2010

For today...

Outside my window...cold and cloudy. We are going to have temps in the teens this week...brrr.

I am thinking...about the year ahead and all of the things I want to do. I have been slacking in my list making (gasp, I know!) and I need to get back on the ball.

I am thankful...for our new Small Group. Rondell and I recently made the tough decision to switch Small Groups. We had the opportunity to visit a group that is completely going through and teaching on the Bible. Rondell and I realized how much we need to know the basics (since we are new to really studying the Bible) in order to increase our walk with Christ. While we will miss our old group (we will still keep in touch with them, of course...Hi Jodie and Laura!) we love all of the information that we are absorbing and all that God is having us learn through Josh and Katie!

I am praying...for obedience.

I am reading...Twilight...well kind of. I watched the movie this weekend and I thought it was really good, but now I want to read the book (because I love to read). My co-worker is going to bring me the book tomorrow and I will start reading right away.

I finished Captivating and I'll be sure to let you know my thoughts soon.

I am hoping...to figure out a good system and routine to get my projects done. I need to focus on one thing at a time (I feel like I've said this before!).

From the kitchen...Chili, cabbage & noodles, and maybe tacos. I need to get back to meal planning too.

Around the house...it feels like chaos. I have too many little projects going on at once and I need to focus on one at a time. This week I plan on finishing the kids' bathroom and organizing our hall closet.

One of my favorite things...listening to Jamison and her friends talk. Jamison's friend Hannah and her family came over for pizza last night and it was so cute to listen to their little conversations.

A few plans for the rest of the week...figure out a master plan in getting a good project routine, finance routine, menu routine, etc...finish the kids' bathroom, read Genesis 1-14, and go to my friend Tonya's Stampin Up! workshop.

Here is a picture I'm leaving you with:

Jamison got this cookbook for Christmas from Aunt Roni. It has a lot of nice recipes and one of them is called "Froggy-in-the-water cupcakes." Jamison, Aunt Roni and Caleb made them on Thursday. The recipe calls for blue frosting but we had a can of strawberry frosting and that worked just fine for Jamison. Aren't they cute!?

LOVE those cupcakes! Too cute! :) I'm continuing my struggle with organization and I, too, have many little things going on that need more attention than I can give each of them. I AM going to get caught up! Hope you have a productive week. And btw, do yourself a favor and after you read Twilight, read New Moon BEFORE you watch the movie. :) I'm a Twihard and it is so much better when you read them first.

I love the cupcakes, and chili and tacos are on our menu as well. It seems as though everyone shifts into winter menu mode and makes the same things!

Best wishes on your new small group. I am still trying to talk my husband into finding one for us. We are very new to the bible as well and I would love to just study it. Pastor Jay was talking about a class yesterday that I thought might be worthwhile that my understanding was to help you learn the Bible and help with your walk. I think I might check into that.

I can't wait to hear your idea of tackeling your idea's. I have a list that need tackeled as well.

Have a blessed day!

Oh and BTW...I read the Twilight Saga in one week. Every book. I am pretty sure I neglected my kids and my husband (jokingly) but they were SOOOO good. I am glad you enjoyed the movie. I will be happy to try to answer any Twilight questions you have. I do like to consider myself a Twi-Hard! LOL

Smiles

Love the cupcakes. I will have to make these for Trey's snack at school in January.
I feel your pain with the cold weather. We are suppose to be in low teens and even in the negative digits later in the week. Oh, how I can't wait for the warm summer days.
I am so with you on getting organized. I try to get a lot of my projects done in the winter when I can't get out and play in the yard. I am so proud that this weekend I sat down and planned the menus for the entire month. I haven't done this in so long.
Have a fabulous Monday!

Mmmm...i would be completely happy with pink icing too, yum!

It feels like chaos around here too! It's always nice to go on vacation..but so hard getting home :( and since it was right after Christmas...I had decorations to put away and the kids were getting all their toys out that they had to leave behind! Now to find a place for those things! Glad you found a good fit for your new small group! Sounds like it will work out great! Have a wonderful week...we are back to school tomorrow! {And it's SO COLD here, too!}

Love the cute cupcakes!!! Yeah, you get the most for your buck when you can grow tomatoes. Problem with growing them down here is that they don't do well in HOT weather. Go for it girl! It's cooler where you live, so you'll have good luck. Remember to water everyday. =)

With your projects...one thing that helps me is to just make a list of all your running projects or ones you want to tackle. Then assign one to each week. Tackle only ONE FULL project each week and then move onto the next one. I'm like you though. I get motivated with lots of little ones and they don't get finished. It's only because you're passionate and that's not a bad thing. (smile)

Keep warm!

PS-Thanks for commenting on my blog. At times I think no one is reading it so why bother! Thanks.=)

Oh my goodness we have too much in common. My husband and I also are switching small groups! It is something we've struggled with the last 6 months or so, but feel like we need a change. The group we are in now does more topical studies (marraige, parenting, etc) and we are going to a group that does very indepth Bible Study. They are in Genisis and working through the Bible too. The study is so in depth the group has asked the teacher for a syllabus this year! LOL I have asked God to give me confirmation about our decission and while I feel like I was given that earlier this week - I have to tell you this is even more confirmation for me! So cool!
