Summer Fun List 2012

This is our first year making up a Summer Fun List and man are we excited.  Everyone pitched in to create the list...even my mom (*see "wash Gramma Lee's car"*)!

I wanted to do something so that we can be purposeful about our time during the Summer and not look back in September and wonder what we did with all of our Summer free-time.  We picked a lot of things that we normally do, like the spray park and the Summer Reading Program.  We also added a few "new-to-us" items, like the drive-in and making S'mores.
I posted this list on Facebook and it was sadly reported to me that The Beach Waterpark is now closed...sniff.

We have already checked some items off...some we did before we actually created the list because that's just how we roll.
Play Playstation...one of Caleb's choices.  He loves playing the "older" games with Dad.
Another Caleb item...building a train track in the driveway.
This item we did before the list was made (and already checked it off...as seen in the pic above) when we celebrated National Chocolate Ice Cream Day (thanks Kim)
We will be spending lots of time at the library.  Jamison has already completed her first round of the Summer Reading Program.

One of the things I look forward to the most during the Summer is going to the pool.  Last year was the first year we did not get a pool pass and we ended up visiting a bunch of different pools.  We liked the idea so much that we decided to do it again this year.
Our first stop on our pool hop was one that we had never been to before.  While it was fun to try something new, it wasn't the best pool that we've been to and I'm not sure we'll go back.
Our next stop was to our closet pool...the one we will probably frequent the most.  Jamison was here for a birthday party and Caleb and I stayed to hang out.  We ended up hanging out with a friend of mine (Jamison is good friends with her daughter) and her family.  Caleb really enjoyed attacking Mr. Dave in the water!
One of the last items we checked off was to fill up our new backyard pool.  Rondell put it on an incline so we ended up having a shallow end and a deep end...LOL.

We can't wait to check more items off of the list!  Did you create a Summer Fun List?

When I Grow Up...

I want to me a mom like this lady!
I can't even begin to tell you how thoughtful my mother is...

She knows me better than I know myself...

She knew I loved suncatchers before I knew I loved suncatchers...

She recognizes my love for paper towels and brings them to me often...

She makes the BEST Easter baskets...

She can tell at the very beginning of a phone conversation that I have a cold...

She is so very helpful with all of my gardening needs...

She loves on my kids and spoils them rotten...

She makes time for us every Tuesday for some quality time (and a little NCIS watching)...

She even somehow knew that I was thinking about buying a red Pandora charm to remind me of her (she LOVES red) because she recently bought me these:
Just cuz!

I want to be that for my children :)

I love you Mommy!

What's Been Happenin in our Hood...

We have been trying to keep ourselves busy during this Winter season.  The temps have been unseasonably warm so it has been easier to be out and about...like just yesterday we played outside after school/work!

Here's a look at a few things we have been doing:

We celebrated this handsome little guy.  He had his first real friend party.  We have become friends with a few of our neighbors who have kids around Caleb's age so he was able to have quite a few kids at his party.  We had the party at his favorite pizza place which was fun for him and wonderful for me because I didn't have to clean up :)
I did simple favors for each child...a Cars 2 cup, Cars 2 Cheez Its (I just bought a box and then put some in a snack baggie for each kid...I love snack baggies!), Cars 2 tatoos & a small box of Cars 2 crayons.

We have been doing a lot of reading.  Jamison has always been a big reader (love that about her) and she has been reading more in depth chapter books.  Together we have been reading The Chronicles of Narnia:  The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe.  After we are done we're going to rent the movie (though I know the book will still come out on top...they are always better than the movie).

We signed both kids up for gymnastics for fun:
I know this picture is blurry, but it is a true representation of how this kid is always on the move.  This class has been especially good for him because it gives him a chance to run off some energy.
Before the last class one of the girls was trying to teach Jamison how to do a cartwheel.  It was so sweet :)

On Saturday we met up with Rondell's cousin and her two boys to go bowling:
I'm not a fan of bowling, but Rondell loves it & the kids had a blast!

Keeping up with my quest to PURGE, we cleaned out Caleb's room over the weekend.  I now have a box of toys/books/puzzles to donate.
I was so proud of my little guy who helped during the entire process.  Here he is putting all of the Sorry pieces into a baggie.  Have I mentioned how I love baggies?

So, what's goin' on in your hood?

What a Difference Two Years Makes :)

**I will note that I must not have gotten more creative with Jamison's hair during that time as she is sporting the same do :)

Fall Favorite

It think that I have finally made it official...Fall is my favorite season.  Yes, I love the free schedule of Summer (and going to the pool), but there is nothing like the comfort that Fall brings.  There are a few things that I enjoy doing during Fall...one of them is apple picking.

We have been apple picking for a few years now and always go to the same place...Lynd's.  Lynd's is a little pricey, but it is close to where my mom lives and it has become familiar...and those who know me know I love familiar :)

Here are some (unedited) pictures from our day:
We always go when it is time to pick Jonathan apples because they make such good apple crisp (my fav...recipe found here)

Who do you think is the most excited?

This year we got a 20 lb bag...looks like a lot of crisp in our future :)
My favorite apple, and Lynd's most popular, is the Honey Crisp.  It is usually very crowded on the days to pick these apples so I just usually buy a 1/2 peck when we pick the Jonathon apples.
This year Mommy and Caleb munched on yummy kettle corn...it was still warm.
The next Fall outing will be to go & grab a few of these guys :)

What do you love about Fall?

Happy Birthday to the Best Mommy EVER!

Yes, I still call her Mommy...and probably always will. I also realized today that she calls her mom "Mommy" too (her mom passed away when my mom was 16).

Here are a few ways she is the BEST:
She moved from her home, 2 1/2 hours away, to us when she found out I was pregnant with my first child. She helped me during my sickest times while pregnant, she was here when I was going through postpartum depression, and just through all the ups and downs of being a first time mom.

As I've said before, she loves my husband like a son. I love that they love each other and get along so well (except for the times they gang up on me).

She always brings the kids peppermints.

She's always such a trooper and comes with us on our adventures. She has the most contagious laugh!

She knows me so well, almost better than I know myself. She knew I loved sun catchers before I did! She is always so thoughtful.

I love you Mommy...more than words could ever say. Happy Birthday!
