Cheaper is not always better!
Rondell and I, like so many right now, are trying to watch our money. We are trying to spend our money more wisely and make a few sacrifices. The other day we were at the store doing our bi-weekly grocery shopping and I was getting things to make baked ziti. We came upon the sauce and after some evaluation of prices we decided to buy this:
So the moral of the story my friends...cheaper is not always better.

Isn't that totally the truth. I usually always buy the cheaper brand of things. But I have learned that some food items just can't be wonderful without the correct items.
I am impressed that you go shopping bi-weekly. We go once a week, which we have learned is a good rule so that we don't over spend by going in once a day.
Hope you have a great Wednesday!
I've also found some food items that aren't worth skimping on...spaghetti sauce is one of them. I left an award for you on my blog today!
Ah Grasshopper, let us mix cultures and take advice from your Italian friend....
That $1 per can Hunts is actually good if it is used correctly: Crumble and brown sausage in a skillet. (I have used hot Italian, turkey and venison chili - all works fine.) Add a big slug of red wine and deglaze the skillet with it. Add the Can O' Hunts and a nice splash of Balsamic Vinegar. Add a can of diced tomato. Let is simmer a little bit.
FYI - I think all jarred sauces need a splash or two of Balsamic Vinegar....
You need to find some one who knows how to do that coupon magic and get you your special sauce for next to nothing!
I agree...some stuff you just can't buy the cheaper brand! But I used a can of Hunts this week to make Eggplant Parmesan and it turned out pretty good! I added in some italian seasonings and some garlic, plus all the cheese! But I have tried Hunts with just plain spaghetti and it was kind of bland.
My hubby is the grocery shopper, and that is what he says, too. So, he became a coupon cutter in this economy. Spaghetti sauce does have a certain taste you are looking for-or NOT.
Happy summer to you!!!
Oh Kelli, good morning and thank for visiting my blog!! I just clicked yours to visit you back, and then got sucked in to all your posts (should have been doing something productive, but productive can wait right?) and loved it!! I'll be back to visit again.
Have a wonderful day,
Sasha
I totally agree - some things you just can't stray from. I've tried sauce in a can before, I'll never do it again! But I prefer Prego over Ragu :-)
We like Hunt's but not the Traditional...We only like Garlic and Herb.
We too are bi-weekly shoppers. Pay day is every two weeks so we make out a menu/meal plan for 14 days and go shopping accordingly.
AMEN!!
also with clothes! unless you only need to wear it once! ha
