Expectations...we all have them. We expect certain things of ourselves, of others & of situations.
At times expectations can be set too high. This is something I have been known to do with my children and it is an area that I need to purge. This is not to say that I should not have expectations of my children, but that the expectations should be fitting for them. I tend to see what other kids are doing and think my children should be doing the same. Or my expectations have more to do with what is convenient for me rather than what is beneficial for them.
I am praying about what expectations are beneficial to them and giving them grace at times when expectations are not met.
I am listening more and having more discussions with them. They need to feel that my love is unconditional and not based on whether or not they meet a goal I set for them.
But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." 2 Corinthians 12:9a

Another great post Kelli. You are really making me think today!! I always enjoy reading your words and thoughts!
this is so good, kelli. it's amazing to me to think of what all i expect - like a comfortable life and ease. i'm trying to learn how to teach my kiddos about this as well.
Such a good reminder! Thank you for this today!
I have really high expectations of my kids too...and sometimes I think maybe that stresses them out a little. I love that verse:)
I agree. This is another great post. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)
Such a sweet, sweet photo. And I feel ya. Not that I shouldn't have expectations for my girls, but sometimes I forget just how young they are. Especially with Sierra. She's sooo mature most of the time, that when she does act her age, I get frustrated with her.
The truth. You wrote it all out girl, and this so difficult as parents, especially ones that want to be 'involved' with our childrens lives. Thanks for this sweet friend!
I wonder if we're not all a little guilty of this, of comparing our kiddos to others' kiddos and then expecting more of them. I think it's human nature to compare ourselves to one another so we would then do the same with our kids.
That said, it's great that you are mindful of this and making the changes you feel you need to make. :o)
Yep. Expectations bite me in the butt all the time. This is something our pastor touched on this past weekend too...
