I Just Wanted to Share...

My name is Kelli and I am not a big fan of hymns...gasp!  I'm not sure why, but for some reason they bore me.  Are you still there?  Are we still friends?

There are times, however, when a hymn captures me.  That happened last night at BSF.  We sing a hymn before the lecture (see BSF's four-fold approach here) and last night's hymn was Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus.  The chorus really struck me:

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

In our lesson we covered Hebrews 3 & 4 which talks about fixing our eyes on Jesus and entering into God's rest.  I love how this hymns tells us what will happen once we 'look FULL in His wonderful face'...do you see it?  The things of earth will grow strangely dim!!!  That means stress/anxiety/worry, things that we make a higher priority than Him, financial issues, etc all pale in the light of His glory and grace.

I think that's awesome news!!!

Perhaps I need to listen to hymns more often :)

I am much more of a praise and worship kind of girl! I have a few hymns I like, but for the most part the outdated wording kind of drives me crazy! Especially the ones that use hath and thine...nobody talks like that anymore:)

Okay...well I can now saw that I'm not a huge fan of Psalms. I know. That's dumb. But for some reason, they confuse me sometimes.

There are several hymns that bring me back to my childhood and this is one of them. I really didn't and still aren't too fond of hymns but I do have a few that I like and this is one of them. I really enjoy the newer Christian music out there.

Thanks for your post today. Just a reminder that I need to lean more on the Lord. Things are very dim lately for my family as my father is battling esophageal cancer. He has lost over 60 lbs and is in a rehabilitation center. I beg him every day to eat - at least a little. My worries would be so much less if I turn my eyes to HIM.

P.S. I love the old hymns, but we can still be friends :)

I am not a big Hymn fan either, but I love it when God surprises me & captures my heart when I least expect Him to!

Aww, that is awesome news! And just what I needed to hear :) But I agree, hymns have never been my favorite.

Happy Thanksgiving, Kelli! I'm thankful for you, friend!

Wait wait! How am I behind on your blog and posting???? ACK!

When I was little, I used to count the number of stanzas and number of lines of music and cringe if a song was particularly long.

Now, I LOVE to sing--not that I'm very good at, but I certainly do make a joyful noise unto the Lord, hee hee--and I'm Catholic, and well, we just don't sing all the verses, so it's not so bad.

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I love hymns, that one especially. But the newer worship music is so good too. I think a mix of both is definitely the best song service at church.
