I've Been Thinking...

...about me, about life, about who I am. I know this sounds deep, but I'm really just trying to get some thoughts together in my head and figure out a few things.

I've been reading a few blogs lately (hi Heidi, hi Kasey!) where the person is talking about being overwhelmed with blogging and taking a break. Not that they don't enjoy blogging, but it needs to be less of a priority for them right now (I admire that about them!) It made me take a look at my blog and seeing if it interferes with my balance. I had to think to myself if I blog (is the even a verb?) too much, if I read blogs too much, is blogging affecting my daily life and interfering with family time.

I've concluded that blogging, for me, is very much an encouraging tool for me. It helps me to gather my thoughts, really pay attention to the little things about my kids and document those moments, get the push that I need to do the crafty and organizing things that I want to do...things that make me happy.

For example, I made this list a while back (which I saw by reading another blog, hi Betsy!) and as I was reading over it today I remembered things I wanted to do because they were documented. Now I'm encouraged to really get some of those things done: meal planning, having date nights with each kid, getting back into scrapbooking...

Also I was recently reading this post by my blog friend Meredith and again stepped back to evaluate how purposeful I'm being with my family. She has a great idea, one that you should check out. This is an area that could be improved...spending less time in front of the TV and more time doing family activities.

Now, I will say that I have time during the day to read and update and I have a nice amount of time after the kids to go bed (when Rondell is at work). I think this is why, for me, blogging seems to be that extra added thing and not an inhibitor because I have a lot of time on my hands.

I also have to cut down the number of blogs I read from time to time. Sometimes I feel like "Kelli, you don't have to read EVERY blog that's out there" and so I'll delete it from my blog or favorites, not because I don't like the blog but because I need to not let it overwhelm me.

I hope that we all can take a step back and evaluate ourselves and what we want to be doing; I think that's a strong trait to have. I have very much enjoyed it, especially today while re-reading my list (mentioned above). While I'll miss my blog friends that are stepping back, I admire them and give them a virtual high five for realizing what their priorities are and not what others say they should be.

For me, for now, I'll be here, being encouraged, getting ideas, connecting with some amazing people and hopefully bringing a little sunshine into your lives!

Aw, Kel. Thanks for posting this. I think we all feel that blogging is fun and a great "tool" to making us better moms and wives, but you're so right! We do need to make sure that there's balance. I know for me, I put a limit to how long I'm on the computer. I ONLY do it when my kiddos are napping and I keep it to under 30 minutes. I do think it's worth the 30 minutes. Some people's blogs are fun to look at and read, but I'm a "short, sweet and to the point" type of girl. I only post things I know people can use and if it's too pricy or too far-fetched (like some rediculous craft I'll never have time for), then I don't post it or read it on other's blogs. You can usually tell just by visiting a few times what kind of blogger someone is...useful info. or just fun to read. I stick to the useful info.
Anyways, this is LONG, but just wanted to give you an "Amen, sista' " cause I know how you feel.
Kelli "B".

Hello from another Kelli! I really enjoy your blog, photos, thoughts (deep or not), and even the way that you format your words. You're fun and you just have a happy blog! And I like happy. I need happy.

Hope you don't mind if I stick around!

Hi Kelli,
thanks for sharing your thoughts, I like your thoughts! You've pointed out some things we all should remember.
I just used spray paint (Rustoleum) on my pots, and that has worked fine. I can't attest to how long it will last, though. There is special paint for terra cotta, but I'm sure it's more expensive. Hope this helps!

Hi Kelli, thanks for sharing. I've also been pondering my blogging time. I've been much more intentional about making more time for the things that I love & need to do. It's all about balance, just like every other thing in life. I think the biggest thing is being aware of it.

Have a great Friday!

I so agree with you! I have read the two same blogs this week and I was starting to think that the blogging world was coming to an end. I agree with you that blogging is a great encouragement to me. I love the great recipes, stories, book reviews and ideas that people share. I think that if you manage your blogging time well you can do it all. Thanks for the great pick me up!

I think we all go through blogging ups and downs...it takes some time to find the right balance and of course that can change at any given time depending on what is going on in "real life".

Hi Kelli,

Oh wow..This hits home for me. I am the opposite...Blogging has taken too much of my time. If I would only write my own blog and not worry about others, I'd be ok. But, I keep reading other blogs and jumping to new ones and adding them to my must reads as well. I tell myself once a week that from now on I won't take on a new blog to read, but usually fail, because somebody does some recommending of a new one, I check it out and love it! So while I'm glad to make friends blogging, I need to set a time during the day to post and then a time to read others blogs. So, thanks to your post, I will set my limit on reading blogs. If I miss a post, well, it's ok.

Right on, Kelli! It's been great these last couple of days as I've evaluated my life as a whole and what continues to keep me happy and sane. ;) Blogging is a great tool and an inspiring one for me! I look forward to sharing my "revelations" soon. Hope you're having a great weekend!

Hey Kelli! Thanks for stopping by my blog! I really enjoyed reading this post - I think we all need to evaluate why we do all the things we do from time to time. Glad to find you!
