Life

So lately I've been thinking about Life...do you ever do that? Not in a depressing way, but in a motivational way. I've been thinking about where I am and where I want to be and the steps in between. I think "OK, Kel...you're 33 and are you in the place you are supposed to be or want to be?" There is something to be said about being content with what God has given me but I know I can also get complacent. I don't think God wants me just to sit back and just go with the motions but to do the things that are in my heart.

This always takes me to my 101 Things in 1001 Days and how I need to stay on top of it. There are a few things that I've completed recently (11 in all):

~ The kids' bathroom (seen here)
~ Learning to make homemade pizza

And there are some things I want to complete in the near future:

~ Finish my Christmas scrapbook (I mean really...it's March!)
~ Work on trying a new recipe each month
~ Create and maintain a useful bill and budget system

I also really want to:

~ Buy and learn to maintain (meaning, not kill) a house plant
~ Read up on how to start and grow a successful garden (I want to plant tomatoes and jalapenos)
~ Organize my entire house. I know this sounds major but my personality goes well with organization and routine and it really would benefit my sanity to have order in my home.
~ Figure out how to sew a dish-mat (like this one)
~ Relax a bit as a parent
~ Save for vacations (not just Destin, but we also want to go to Atlanta and Chicago...oh and I have a trip planned to Vegas with my girlfriends)
~ Memorize Scripture

I could go on...

When I'm thinking about Life I'm trying to figure out why I'm not doing these things...no motivation (that's a nice way of saying lazy), fear, no time (who am I kidding), wondering if I'll succeed...I'm not sure which one, or if it's a combination of all of them.

What I need to remember is this...I can do ALL things through Christ to strengthens me (Philippians 4:13). He is not limiting me, so why should I limit myself?

So, today...I'm going to Google (what would we do without Google) "how to start a tomato garden."

Maybe you can grow your tomatoes inside, and that would count for your house plant AND your garden?! :-) I love how inspired you are to tackle all these things!

You know, I want to memorize scripture too-I know a verse, but not where it is-I want to be able to 'always give an answer for the truth I believe'...See? That is a verse I just quoted, somewhere in the NT!
I also have a chicago trip with girlfriends planned for June...So. Crazy. Excited...

We grew tomatoes last year, they turned out fairly well. However this year I think I want to grow them upside down. I keep reading and hearing that this produces the best. {we shall see!}

Great idea, Kelli! And I'm a really organized person too...disorganization drives me totally batty!

Oh Kelli! You hit the nail on the head for me today. It's so true how we get in a 'rut' and while most of us depend on and like to have a schedule, it's so great just to be spontaneous! I love your lists, but I challenge you this...what are some of the BIGGER things you want out of life? Is there a sport you and Rondell want to take up together. Do you want to go camping more? Where are some places you want to travel? I'm right there with you when it comes to wanting to do things around the house...crafts, organization, new recipes, etc. There's never enough time in a day. I'M CONVINCED! It can be frustrating. However, we only get to live this life ONCE. I know heaven is going to be a magnificent place and I can't wait to get there, but I still want to enjoy this life, doing things for Christ and enoying His creation.

Sooooo, let's hear some of the 'biggies'!!! :)

You're such a neat, motivated person and I love that!

You can do it, Kelli! Raised garden beds are easy to start and easily maintained, and they really produce.

I have so many things I would like to accomplish in this life with which I've been blessed. You've got me to thinking...I'm gonna make a list and I'm gonna do my best to realize my goals. Even the little ones. It feels good to finish something you start and seeing it in black and white makes it more real, more fulfilling. Thanks for the inspiration! :)

I think sometimes it is hard to find the happy medium between content and complacent. If you figure out how to keep a house plant alive let me know....I can kill anything green!

Such a great point, the difference between being content and complacent! I have a long list too, and just need to START!

God really speaks to us a little bit louder on some days! We just had an amazing speaker for MOPS today about this very same issue. She was an older woman, maybe 70's...who talked about her life and how she lost her first child, then her husband, then her two other children throughout her life {total sob and crying!} but how your life should have purpose and exist to serve the lord and others, not just yourself {so guilty of being selfish right now!} and it really hit home as to why I am complaining of the things I do "going through the motions" when there's so much more! This was just a reinforcer for that! thanks so much! I need to hear this right now! It's hard some days to find that motivation and purpose...but I'm truly blessed and am thankful for that! :) Geez...so where do I begin, haha!

What a great list. I totally agree with you about being content with life. Sometimes we get so busy we lose focus of that.
I am like you can't keep a inside plant alive. Let me go outside and we have no problems, but bring it inside and there is no hope. If you learn any secrets you will have to share!
Have a fabulous Wednesday!

Tomatoes are fun to grow. I have planted them for many years. It is a great family thing too. Layla and I watch their growth.

Get an ivy in your house. They are so easy and it is almost impossible to kill them.

Have a great rest of the week!

Love this post. So inspirational and true. I think about life a lot. I keep wanting to write down some goals and haven't done it yet. It's on my to-do list! Ha.

So, have fun learning new things and making the most out of this life we have been given. You are awesome!

Oh, and thanks for the sweet comments you always leave on my blog. Makes me smile every time.

p.s. I, too have a fear of frying food which is why I bake everything! : )

Oh, Kelli, I so love your sense of humor sprinkled with amazing sarcasm. I laughed at what you said about your houseplants. Don't feel bad. I can't grow houseplants either. I have silk ones in the house and THEY even die on me! I can plant a few annuals outside every year, but only those that don't need much attention. LOL

On a more serious note, I also know how you feel when it's comes to complacency. I become complacent at times. I think in my case, I become fearful, especially when it comes to my career because I'm afraid of change or maybe having more responsibility.

Well, thank you for making me laugh. I truly needed it. You're the best! God bless!!
