Cheaper is not always better!

Rondell and I, like so many right now, are trying to watch our money. We are trying to spend our money more wisely and make a few sacrifices. The other day we were at the store doing our bi-weekly grocery shopping and I was getting things to make baked ziti. We came upon the sauce and after some evaluation of prices we decided to buy this:

But trying to be wise about money we went with the cheaper product. Wrong!!! I made the ziti tonight and took a bite...just not the same. Even Rondell, who is not picky, said it wasn't the same.

So the moral of the story my friends...cheaper is not always better.

Cheaper IS Better

The other day we were all eating dinner as a family, one of my favorite things to do. All of a sudden Caleb started screaming and would not eat, very unusual for Bubby. I thought he wanted bread, but no, more screaming. I tried to let him feed himself, but no, more screaming. Then I though maybe he was thirsty so Rondell got his brand new sippy Nuby cup and filled it with watered down juice, but no, more screaming. After looking at him and going with Mommy instinct I realized that it was JAMISON's cup that he wanted. The cheap princess cup that I bought her for Christmas (I mean SANTA bought her). I thought to myself "no, he won't be able to drink from this cup, he has to start of with these expensive starter cups for babies." HA! I asked Jamison if Caleb could have her juice and she said "yes" and he sucked that juice down like he's been drinking from those cups for years. So I guess in this case cheaper is better.

miscellany monday

1. Each week I think I'm going to spell miscellany wrong. I usually go back a few times to make sure that it's right.

2. I have a few have to's in life...I have to wash my hands after removing nail polish (because my mama said so) or if I have something sticky on my hands, I have to drink a Coke with pizza, I have to sleep with a fan, I have to have a glass of water on my nightstand before bed... Do you have any have to's?

3. My mother has always told me that cheaper is not always better. Cheaper sauce (I talked about that here), taco season, polish remover...not better. I will stick with Ragu, Old El Paso and Cutex.

4. This weekend when my cousin's best friend saw Caleb she said "Caleb, you are so cute" and Caleb said "I know." We might need to have a lesson on being humble.

5. When traveling through blogland you can always tell what foods are in season...first, there were tons of posts about strawberries (I even did one here), now I see that zucchini and cucumbers are ripe (check out what Darby posted here...and don't blame me if you also fall in love with her blog), and soon we'll be reading all about apples (and I can't wait for that!).

Friday Tid Bits

Well it's the end of the week and I am very happy! I thought I'd share a few tid bits from the week:

• My discussion leader that I mentioned on Monday is doing better and was back at our Crown Study last night. Praise God!

We missed church on Sunday because of my allergic reaction to laundry detergent and Jamison was SO upset. It kind of made me happy that she enjoys church that much that she was sad to miss it.

I got to go to one of my favorite stores (twice), Archiver's. I went there to get some pens to write in my Bible. The pens I got the first time didn't work out so I went back yesterday. I saw so many things I wanted to buy. I asked if they carried the Cricut and they don't, but they carry a machine that's called the Silhouette. It's cheaper than the Cricut and you don't have to buy the expensive cartridges. Something to keep on my wish list.

I received this CD in the mail. I won this contest that my friend Jen was having and she sent it to me. How sweet of her to hear a good CD and then share the love. This CD is jazzy and R&B combined...right up my alley.

I also won this contest (mine is the second story) and should be getting my Starbucks gift card in the mail soon. Thanks Meredith.

I started making my BSF binder. I want to have a binder to keep all of my lessons in for the Life of Moses. That way I can go back and reference my notes.

I'm counting down the days till I get my pool pass...only 12 more days to go (even though the pool doesn't open until Memorial Day)

Wednesday Ramblings - Grocery Store Edition

Rondell and I are trying to get really serious about saving money. The area where we tend to overspend the most is grocery shopping. So last night we went to the store and left with these observations:

~ Kroger brand "Raisin Bran Crunch" does taste like the original (I had a bowl last night)...but,

~ I just can't bring myself to buy Kroger brand blueberry waffles. They just aren't the same as Eggo's, I've tried...not the same.

~ Lump crab meat IS expensive, so I will take my friend Angela's advice and buy it from Aldi's (if you don't have an Aldi's, it's basically a discount store but they have pretty good products).

~ You know what's expensive...crackers...CRACKERS. I mean really, $4 for a box...of crackers. Baffles my mind.

~ I really hope Kroger Ranch dressing tastes like my beloved Hidden Valley Ranch dressing...love that stuff.

~ I remembered that cheaper is not always better (as seen here) so I went with the Ragu.

~ I remembered when you used to be able to buy shredded cheese for $1...oh the days.

~ Bananas are always 49 cents per pound...the price never changes.

We didn't end up really saving all that much in the end. I know that people do it all the time but I have yet to master the skill of saving a bundle at the grocery store...but I did have some good thoughts though.
